I recently had my first experience wearing Virtual Reality (VR) glasses (as you’ve seen on tv).
VR is the technology that sends realistic images and sounds to the brain to make you imagine that you’re going through a real experience. The technology is fairly new and will get better but still you find yourself turning around and looking and moving your arms trying to feel what’s virtually in front of you.
My first VR was of the horror genre. I found myself in what seemed like an old dirty science lab. The room door was opened and the lights were flickering. On the floor in the corner was a dead man’s body. There was another open door in the room that led to a dark room. Keep in mind that because of my wireless headphones I can hear the sound of the fluorescent lights going on and off and there’s also eerie music in the background.
As the music intensified I was completely immersed in the scene I found myself in. Then, the lights went out and I was in complete darkness. When they turned back on I looked back at the corner and the dead body was gone. Then the lights turned off again and when they came back on there was a 7 foot tall hideous creature in front of me. My heart stopped. I screamed like a littler girl. And my experience was over.
In my second VR I found myself scuba diving among great whites. They were all around me. I could almost hear myself breathe. One of them, what seemed like a 15 footer, swam so close I reached out to touch it as it passed by. I looked behind me to see it swim away but when I turned back around there was another great white almost at my face swimming pass me. That one shocked me so that I jumped and yelled and my experience was over.
Christianity teaches that one day the Lord Jesus Christ is going to return to earth and snatch believers away to heaven. It’s all going to happen at the sound of the trumpet. We will ascend and meet Jesus in the clouds and our bodies will be transformed into a perfect heavenly body. The apostle Paul wrote,
“I will explain a mystery to you. Not every one of us will die, but we will all be changed. It will happen suddenly, quicker than the blink of an eye. At the sound of the last trumpet the dead will be raised. We will all be changed, so that we will never die again.” 1Corinthians 15:51-52 CEV
That’s going to be one wild ride. Let’s VR it!
I need you to let your creative juices flow for the next few moments. Pretend you’re a Christian (if you’re not). It’s a bright sunny day and you’re walking around outside in picturesque downtown (if the downtown area where you live is ugly and trashy, then imagine you’re in a fun/cool outside mall strip)
You can hear cars slowly passing you by and people talking as they walk and shop. You’re doing some window shopping yourself when all of a sudden a loud trumpet sounds. You hear it but you don’t know where it’s coming from. You turn around 360 degrees. You see shops, people and cars moving, even a dog-walker passing you by, but no musician. Then you hear the trumpet sound again…LOUD… and yet, it’s a soothing, perfectly pitched sound.
You look up and there’s something weird about the blue heavens. Then, in the distance, from the old town cemetery, you see what seems like people floating up to heaven. The sound intensifies.
You’re confused, “What’s going on?” Then, a driverless car, part of it is now riding on the sidewalk, brushes by you almost hitting you. You jerk back, “HEY”, then you see the dog that was being walked running towards you but without a person holding the leash. You look the other way and some people are running as if panic mode. Then, the person you’re with starts floating up.
Suddenly, you feel yourself elevating. You reach out to grab a hold of a pole by you but too late, you’re going up. You look down and see the old colorless roofs of downtown buildings. And you see smoke rising from a big car crash in the distance. Then it dawns on you that there are thousands going up with you but thousands staying back below in a confused state.
All of a sudden what seems like a blinding bright light shines, you feel something quick happening as if you’ve been changed for the better, and there you see Jesus in the clouds…
That’s my VR rapture version. Does it match yours? Please leave me a comment.
Awesome. I love it.
Thank you, Linda!!
I like that VR! Can’t wait!
Me too!
